The growth of the World Wide Web, along with the related need to organize an increasing number of online documents, has led to an increased interest in data mining over text. This talk will present an overview of the field of text mining and consider its relationship to the area of knowledge management, another subject of recent attention. Research on text mining includes the development of methods for text search, web crawling, and analyzing documents through clustering, classification, feature extraction, and summarization. The talk will examine different techniques and representations, as well as approaches to evaluating them, and it will demonstrate some typical systems for mining text.
